This is the courtyard for the Hotel Complex and as such is best used with all of the Hotel Buildings (the Stone Hotel, Grand Stone Hotel, Cookhouse and Coaching Stable) to make the full complex.

A courtyard is an area fully enclosed by walls or buildings. They have been around since 3000BC and are normally areas of security for belongings or areas for communities to meet.

In this courtyards case it is to provide a walled and paved central area where horses and carts can be kept securely as well as allowing guests and staff to avoid walking in mud.
