Turkic warriors fought using the traditional horse archery of the steppe. Fast and peerless raiders, they made widespread use of feigned retreats and ambushes, wearing down and demoralising their enemies before moving in for the kill. Entire tribes of Turcomans lived fully or semi-nomadic lives in the Seljuq sultanates of Rum (Anatolia) and in northern Syria. Khurusanian cavalry fought in the Irano-Persian cavalry tradition, using static shower-shooting to weaken their enemies before closing for a decisive charge.
